Top 5 Server Based Games For 2023

What are Server-based Games?

Server-based games are games you can host your owner server version of the game to play it with your friends online. Now, most games allow you also to mod the server. Modding is actually adding new features or removing features or changing the features to customize your gaming experience with the flavor you like. Speaking of flavor the original version of the game server is called vanilla server which means this is the version that the developer release not touched. Sometimes it gets boring or hard, in the case of dayz, to play the vanilla version. Now of course you don’t have to be tech-savvy to mod your server as for almost every game there is a community of modders.

1. Minecraft

Explore infinite worlds and build everything from the simplest of homes to the grandest of castles. The infamous building game Minecraft takes the lead with around 104147 players on Battle Metrics. Every server is its own self-contained multiplayer world, with its own rules, gameplay style, and communities. Some are Role-Play, PVP, etc.

2. Rust

You wake naked on a mysterious island armed only with a rock and a torch. You’ll need to brave natural dangers. Design and build bases to defend your territory or control the resources of the island. There are no rules in Rust but the ones you make for yourself. Craft tools, armor and weapons to defend yourself.  58216 players on Battle Metrics just remember one thing No Trust in Rust.

3. ARK: Survival Evolved

As a man or woman stranded naked, freezing and starving on the shores of a mysterious island called ARK, you must hunt, harvest resources, craft items, grow crops, research technologies, and build shelters to withstand the elements. Use your cunning and resources to kill or tame & breed the leviathan dinosaurs and other primeval creatures roaming the land, and team up with or prey on hundreds of other players to survive, dominate… and escape! Similar to Rust to some extent, however, it is less realistic and more into Sci-Fi.

4. Dayz

How long can you survive a post-apocalyptic world? A land overrun with an infected “zombie” population, where you compete with other survivors for limited resources. Will you team up with strangers and stay strong together? Or play as a lone wolf to avoid betrayal? This is DayZ – this is your story.

The game shares the same mechanics as Arma 3 since it was a mod back in the day. The game is infamous for its realistic crafting mechanics and survivability. Dayz received a major update recently which caused a spike in the players’ base for it. It is also worth mentioning that the game is on 40% sale until the 28th of April.

5. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive

The famous Esports game Counter-Strike: Global Offensive came at number 5. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a piece of history in the FPS world. Counter-Strike: Global Offensive is a 2012 multiplayer first-person shooter developed by Valve and Hidden Path Entertainment. It is the fourth game in the Counter-Strike series

Honorable Mention: Squad

Squad is a tactical FPS that provides authentic combat experiences through teamwork, constant communication, and gameplay. It bridges the large gap between arcade shooter and military simulation with 100 player battles, combined arms combat, base building, and a great integrated VoIP system.

Squad is pretty comparable to Arma 3, however, the mechanics encourage teamwork by establishing more dependency on the team leader and their critical role to lead his/her squad. Using vehicles, building, and more need the squad leader’s permission in some cases which makes commination in this game is key. Some servers also have a mandatory rule on having a mic. Lastly, Squad is known for its building mechanism. You can plan and build your military bases in cooperation with your commander.
