Discord voice chat is now available on Xbox consoles
Xbox users may now use their consoles to access Discord voice chat. A new update that enables Xbox users to join Discord calls from an Xbox One or Xbox Series S / X device is going live today.
Instead of being a dedicated Discord software for Xbox, Discord voice chat for Xbox works by transmitting voice chats from Discord to an Xbox. This means that you cannot join Discord calls directly from an Xbox and must move calls from the Xbox and Discord mobile applications to your Xbox console. Owners of Xboxes will notice a new Discord voice option in the Parties & chat section of the Xbox interface, which will trigger the account connecting process.
When you try to join a call on Discord for mobile or desktop, you’ll notice a new transfer to Xbox option once your accounts have been linked. Once you click that, the call is transferred to your Xbox console and you are taken to the mobile Xbox app. You can see all of your Discord friends who are presently in a call, change the volume, and stop a call right from the Xbox dashboard while you’re in a Discord call on Xbox.
Since July, Microsoft and Discord have been testing this connection. While it’s not as simple as joining calls directly from your console, using the Discord mobile app to join calls and transferring them is simple to get used to. It beats needing to use an Xbox headset with Bluetooth in order to hear both the Discord voice and game sounds simultaneously when joining a Discord call from the mobile app.
Over time, the integration might even get better. The Discord team writes in a blog post, “We’re really pleased to be releasing support for Discord Voice chat on Xbox consoles in conjunction with our colleagues over at Xbox.” We are eager to continue working together to give your friends and communities even richer, more meaningful experiences.
