Rumor: After Infinity, Assassin's Creed might be released in Japan

The Assassin’s Creed franchise’s future has recently been the subject of a lot of rumor. Numerous leaks and rumors suggest various worlds, narratives, and other elements for the historical action-turned-RPG series. The subject of much conjecture most recently was Assassin’s Creed Rift, which one leaker said would be place in the Aztec Empire. Fans have long wished for an Assassin’s Creed game set in the ancient Aztec civilisation, but it appears that the series may not be moving into that era just yet. However, it’s possible that Assassin’s Creed will eventually have a different popular historical setting. Since the start of the franchise, players have wished for a feudal Japan setting, and many fan works have even attempted to depict what such a game may look like. An amazing Unreal Engine 5 demo of a Japanese Assassin’s Creed was recently displayed by a fan, and now it appears that hopes may finally be realized as a Japanese Assassin’s Creed game is apparently in the works.

Jeff Grubb, a well-known games journalist and host of the podcast “Jeff Grubb’s Game Mess,” is the source of this claim. In the most recent episode, Grubb talked about the future of Assassin’s Creed and brought up both Assassin’s Creed Rift and Infinity, a live-service game with numerous settings. Grubb claims that the next installment of the Assassin’s Creed franchise will be set in Japan when Infinity is released.

Mike Minotti, Grubb’s co-host, said that recent sources suggested that Assassin’s Creed’s Japanese setting would actually appear within Infinity rather than being set after it. In order to increase sales, Minotti contends that it would be logical for Ubisoft to release Assassin’s Creed Infinity with one of the most desired settings. Even if Assassin’s Creed Infinity featured a historical Japanese location, it might be some time before players could visit there.

As previously mentioned, Grubb and Minotti didn’t only discuss Assassin’s Creed Infinity; rather, the majority of their conversation was on Assassin’s Creed Rift and the speculation around it. Grubb confirmed the prevailing belief that Assassin’s Creed Rift will be set in Baghdad and will include gameplay on a much smaller scale than previous installments in the series, as opposed to the sprawling RPGs seen since Assassin’s Creed Origins.

A new version of Assassin’s Creed is being developed.
