Sign-ups for the Skate 4 playtest are now available, and we finally have official gameplay.

Playtests for Skate 4 are now scheduled and you may sign up right away. The information was released earlier today along with a little over a minute of “pre-pre-pre-alpha” gameplay video on the official Skate Twitter account. Things “may look a little differently than you’re anticipating, but we’re still working on it,” according to a video disclaimer. The landscapes and models may appear to be a touch low-poly, similar to the pre-alpha footage that leaked a few months ago, but the skating itself appears to be good, and that’s what we’re here for.

We’re also here for the closed playtest sign-ups, which you can access over on the game’s official EA page.(opens in new tab)

The sign-up blurb states, “As a Skate insider, you have the opportunity to play early versions of the game and contribute feedback along our development journey. “We can’t guarantee when you’ll get to play since we need to scale access to Skate gradually as development moves forward to ensure a smooth experience,” the statement reads.

According on the 30- to 50-minute wait times we’re experiencing at the time of writing, the first wave of Skate 4 playtests will be very competitive. The sign-up queue is open on a different page.

Since the game is still “very early in production,” more people will be able to participate in the playtest as it develops, according to the Skate 4 playtest FAQ(opens in new tab). Since dates aren’t set in stone, EA claims it also “can’t reveal a roadmap of when playtests will occur.”

The FAQ continues, “That means we can’t guarantee when you’ll get to play.” According to the criteria established by our testing objectives at that point in development, “We will be inviting gamers to join in playtesting.”

Playtests for Skate 4 will initially only be available via Origin on PC, but EA claims it plans to add more platforms in the future. Your best option right now is to join the waiting list and be prepared to register as soon as you are given access to the site.
