EA Is Shutting Down Apex Legends Mobile And Battlefield Mobile

Battlefield Mobile and Apex Legends Mobile are both no longer being developed by Electronic Arts. Industrial Toys, the company that created Battlefield Mobile, is also being shut down.

It was announced yesterday as part of EA's Fiscal Year 2023 Q3 financial reports that the business is also pushing out Star Wars Jedi: Survivor until April.

Battlefield Mobile, which had not yet been completely published (although many had played through betas), will be discontinued, according to EA, as part of a "turn from the present direction to better deliver on our vision for the series and to satisfy our players' expectations." The developer also states that Battlefield 2042, which debuted to the disappointment of fans, is currently being improved, and that "pre-production on our future Battlefield experiences at our studios across the globe."

As for Apex Legends Mobile, EA says that despite the game's strong start, "the ongoing experience was not going to meet the expectations" of its players.

"At Respawn, we aim to provide players with games that are consistently outstanding," a statement from Respawn reads. "Following a strong start, the content pipeline for Apex Legends Mobile has begun to fall short of that bar for quality, quantity, and cadence. It is for this reason, after months of working with our development partner, that we have made the mutual decision to sunset our mobile game. Although disappointing, we are proud of the game we launched, are grateful for the support of the Apex Legends community, and are confident that this is the right decision for players."

The in-app purchases that used real money have been halted, and the game has been taken down from online retailers. Players can use their remaining Syndicate Gold to play the entire game from now until May 1 when it closes. In its FAQ, which addresses other queries you might have here, EA states that it will not be issuing refunds for money paid on Apex Legends Mobile.

Let us know what do you think about EA not refunding its players? Is it the right move?
